چکیده

1. The thermal inactivation time at 41.5 degrees C. of the H. F. and Frank strains of herpes simplex virus, under the conditions described, was 80 hours. 2. A strain of herpes virus recently recovered from a patient treated with a physically induced fever had a thermal inactivation time of 50 hours at 41.5 degrees C. 3. The neurotropic factor of the H. F. and Frank strains of virus was more resistant to a temperature of 41.5 degrees C. than the dermotropic factor. There was little difference in the thermostability of these two factors of the Go strain.

Comparative Molecular PCR-RFLP Study of Native Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1) with KOS Strain

Background: Recent research on several DNA fragments covering open reading frames (ORF) 1-37 shows a new genetic marker in ORF 6 which is specific for differentiating wild-type varicella-zoster virus (VZV) strains from Oka varicella vaccine strain. On the other hand, herpes simplex virus (HSV) genome analysis by restriction enzymes is used to differentiate types one and two of the virus and eve...

Inhibition of herpes simplex virus type 1 infection by Sambucus ebulus extract in vitro

Background: The emergence of drug-resistant strains of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) has been increasingly reported. Therefore, attempts to discover new antiviral agents in particular from natural compounds are required. In this study, we evaluated the possible inhibitory effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Sambucus ebulus (S. ebulus) against HSV-1.    Methods: S. ebulus extract was pro...

Kinetics of Primary and Memory Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte Responses to Herpes Simplex Virus 1 Infection: Granzyme B Mediated CTL Activity

Background: Herpes simplex virus type 1 is one of the most common viruses among human population. Studies demonstrate the essential role of cell mediated immunity, especially CD8+ T cells, in prevention and clearance of HSV1. Objective: It is of great importance to improve our knowledge about the kinetics of CTL responses to primary and secondary HSV-1 infection. Methods: Using a sensitive tech...
